SmartSiC™ Technology: The best of SiC material for HVM manufacturing

SiC material has made tremendous progress past 10 years towards enabling advantageous power devices. System level efficiency, for automotive inverters, now demonstrates superiority to IGBT and fast adoption is happening.

Scaling SiC industry to multi-million wafers per year operations remains a financially risky part, and overall environmental indicators must be improved to meet sustainability targets.

SmartSiC technology brings this opportunity to extract best of SiC material and bring it close to silicon historical standards. On the performance side, ultra low resistivity drives superior energy efficiency while geometry and defectively control bring improved yield and need for less design margins.

On the green side, reduced thermal budget and intensive reuse of mSiC donor allows major CO2 emissions when compared to conventional SiC power devices.

Looking forward on the roadmap, SmartSiC is now further developed to provide reduced variability before epitaxy. While delivering BPD free crystal and very repeatable engineered substrate, manufacturability will be greatly improved while ramping to large volumes.
