EU PSES 2022 Speaker
Julian Fieres studied management but always loved technology equally as much and is now working towards a vision for zero emissions to leave a better planet for the next generation. He is the Vice President of Transformation, Strategy, Sustainability & Digitalization at the Division Electrified Powertrain at the ZF Group. This includes the areas of strategy, M&A, product planning, digitalization and sustainability. With a revenue of €10 billion and around 30,000 employees at Division E, his team and he strive to make an impact for a more affordable and more sustainable mobility of tomorrow every day.
Future E-Drive Technologies and the Race for SiC
Transforming our vehicles and infrastructure into a more sustainable future mobility is the task of our generation. Given the 27% share of the transport industry in total greenhouse gas emissions – The electrification of this industry is be a key lever in reducing emissions and tackling climate change. As electric vehicles are taking a growing share of the global market, innovations in vehicle drivetrains are required to further increase efficiency and reduce the ecological impact of BEVS. Semiconductors, Power Modules and Inverters are key innovation and cost drivers in future electric drivetrains and thus center stage for players along the entire value chain, from crystal to vehicle. Here, Siliconcarbide dies, dedicated new module architectures and software defined e-drives are the next horizon for innovation and efficiency. In my talk, I will thus focus on the adoption of SiC in electric vehicles as well as the chances and risks this brings to all players along the value chain.
