As we electrify everything globally, more efficient power conversion is vital. This means we need more efficient power semiconductors. The incumbent silicon IGBT has diminishing returns with no major advances anticipated. So, the field has turned to wide-band gap materials for improved power conversion efficiency. But, silicon is not dead, and it is possible to achieve dramatic efficiency improvements in globally scalable and cost-effective silicon.
